It is never worth its metal
A Day-Date is worth considerably more as a watch than as gold or platinum. If you have been given a number that sounds like a bullion quote, that is the tell that you are in the wrong room.
The dial is where the range is
Stone dials, wood dials, factory diamond dials, and unusual factory colours span an enormous range. Photographs of the dial straight on, in daylight, are the most useful thing you can send me.
Factory versus aftermarket stones
Factory-set Day-Dates are desirable. Aftermarket setting usually costs more than it adds. They are distinguishable, and confirming which yours is happens on arrival.

No, not for a Day-Date. Precious metal content is a floor, not a valuation. If that is the offer you have in front of you, please get a second opinion from anyone before you accept it, including someone other than me.
Is the first number the number I actually get?
It is an estimate and I say so every time. I give you a range from the reference, the condition you describe, and what the market is doing that week. Once the watch is in my hands and authenticated, I confirm the final number. If it moves, I tell you exactly what moved it.
What if I do not like the final offer?
I ship it back to you, insured, at my cost. No obligation and no fee. That is the whole reason I would rather give you an honest range up front than a flattering one.
How do I get paid?
Wire transfer, sent the same day we agree on the final number. I confirm your banking details with you on a second channel before anything moves.
