The single most common way to lose money on a gold Cartier is to take it somewhere that prices precious metal by the gram. If anyone has offered you a number that sounds like a scrap value, get a second opinion before you accept it.
Case shape and size drive it
Tank Louis, Tank Americaine, Tank Francaise and Tank Must are different watches with different followings. Same for Santos across its generations. The exact model line is the first thing I need.
Manual, quartz, or automatic
All three exist across the Cartier catalogue and the market treats them differently. It is not a simple hierarchy, so it is worth checking rather than assuming.

Often yes. Cartier is one of the few places where a quartz movement does not automatically sink the value, because people buy the design. Do not let anyone tell you a quartz Cartier is only worth its gold.
Is the first number the number I actually get?
